I asked ChatGPT and Claude
I am using a Raspberry Pi 5 with the official 5A power adapter. I want to verify that the PD handshake completed correctly so that 5A is available and the USB ports have the extra power. How do I do this over ssh when no monitor is attached?
The answer from ChatGPT includes the text
You cannot verify a successful 5 A USB-PD handshake on a Raspberry Pi 5 using SSH or any other software-only method.
The Pi 5 firmware does not expose the negotiated PD contract (3 A vs 5 A) or the resulting USB host power budget to Linux.
Emphasis was part of the reply.

The answer from Claude suggests
And check the actual USB current limit:

Code:

cat /sys/class/power_supply/usb-power-supply/current_max
which doesn't work, but Claude also says
Verify USB port power

Code:

vcgencmd get_config usb_max_current_enable
which on my Pi reports

Code:

# vcgencmd get_config usb_max_current_enableusb_max_current_enable=1
I feel this might be the correct answer but am unsure.

ChatGPT doubled down on it not being possible and both AIs suggested various things to grep for in dmesg, none of which worked.
