Does there exist any official doc how to make sure a @home mission-critical Raspberry can be protected against SW and HW failures and how to recover from any failures?

Probably not but many of the techniques that apply to Linux apply to Pi.

The main one being backups, backups, and more backups.

And don't just rely on RAID (or the RAID like features of btrfs, afs, etc). RAID is about availability not data protection. There are plenty of ways to lose data that RAID won't help with.

On my mission critical Pi I use btrfs for the root file system (which needs a custom initramfs), make regular snapshots (scheduled and immediately prior to an update) which are backed up to a separate physical drive.

As for reminders (popup or otherwise), in my experience they don't work. People either get into the habit of clicking through them, of ignoring them, or they simply disable them. For one example look at how many folks are still using the old default username on their Pi (and probably the old default password too).
