I figured it out, installing F-Droid is a 2 step process, install the .apk from a thumb drive and THEN installing that privileged version from recovery mode. I didn't read my previous notes well.

My setup with your builds are very privacy oriented. I've always used F-Droid to download Aurora Store (connects to Google Play Store with a burner account to download things like Spotify, Kodi), a VPN app, and NewPipe (for youtube) to avoid using Google Play Store on the device.

If you or anyone is interested in a privacy build with your images I can post my general instructions.
It's not a two step process, org.fdroid.fdroid.privileged.ota_2130.zip is just broken (or this device is depending who you ask). It tries to mount something at '/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/system' which doesn't exist ('/dev/block/by-name/system' does). So, it doesn't install anything at all.

Google services are not part of my releases and running "de-Googled" Android is pretty well documented on relevant platforms (microG, F-Droid, etc). It's really not any different on this device. You're of course welcome to do a write-up if you want.

From my personal perspective, installing app store of any kind is total overkill as you can just 'adb install' .apk files for the apps you need. ;) You need a reliable source for the .apks of course.
