I use MQTT Mosquitto Broker https://github.com/eclipse-mosquitto/mosquitto on a RPI 3B+ to receive weather MQTT publications from a PICO and RPI 3B+. From the Mosquitto Broker, I write readings to a SQLite DB, publish a web page of readings, and use MQTT to update another PICO with readings.

Of note, I used umqtt.simple https://pypi.org/project/micropython-umqtt.simple/ on the PICO. SIMPLE2 is a different variant and not the second version of SIMPLE. Also, others like paho.mqtt.client are too big for the PICO.
