I've never seen any convincing evidence that the Pi has trouble with good sd cards.I still find it hard to believe that the Raspberry would have trouble with what seem to be standard SD cards. But I have no further appetite for troubleshooting.
But there's lots of evidence of the existence of crappy sdcards - both malicious (faking a well known brand, or reporting a larger capacity),
and incompetent (lowest quality NAND and controller chips, with no wear levelling).
Note that running a OS from an sdcard is a very demanding use case. An sdcard that seems okay for a camera (writing a few MBs a day) may not fare so well running as OS (possibly writing GBs a day).
