I suspect it is a stored credential or cookie ageing out somewhere. If I log out of the connect site and log back in again, then I'm no longer asked for credentials when I actually connect.
I think the browsers in question have been used for connect pretty much since it was first announced. so over a year with no re-authentication. It might be less confusing if the login prompt appeared when going to the site rather than when actually connecting?
