Purr has been purring about how well balanced the slow cores of each Pi Zero are in comparison to the USB2-based network fabric. From this point of view, updating to Zero 2 nodes while keeping the network fixed would not result in such a realistic learning environment for HPC.

According to Scratchy, the proposal

may not have the network speed to CPU balance of a typical supercomputer, but those drawbacks are outweighed by having four-core SMP nodes and a complicated network topology.

I studied the PETSCII and remarked, with only two pods it's difficult to tell if the network topology is based on dragonfly or even fat tree. Shy looked shyly at the ground and meowed, it's actually the flattened butterfly.
