Pimoroni do build their own customised versions of MicroPython with various libraries pre-installed.Usually it is released here: https://github.com/pimoroni/pimoroni-pi ... 0/releases
Probably Pimoroni prefers customized releases and it takes some time to test and adapt.
It is also possible to have a pure MicroPython build for Pimoroni boards without those pre-installed libraries for users who don't want them. That would be easier if the board definitions for missing Pimoroni boards were included with MicroPython installs.
I do have a 'PIMORONI_PICO_PLUS2' board definition for a pure MicroPython build. That works for the Pico Plus 2 but I have not yet figured out how to build for a Pico Plus 2W, and I need to investigate further. That board definition came from -
