Troubleshooting • Further USB 3.0 SSD woes...

Folks,

I have successfully managed to get a JMicron Tech SSD caddy working with a Raspberry Pi 4 using the tips and hints posted (sticky) in this forum. However, I now have a new problem:

The Device is a JMicron Tech powered SSD caddy specifically designed to take certain Macbook SSDs which have a different pin configuration to those commonly used on other devices. It seems that this unique pin-out might have been confined to Macbooks of a certain era so that there are very few options - the market is small.

The SSD is a 128GB device - works perfectly well on Mac (!) and PC including on a very old EEEPC 901 (under a flavour of Debian 32 bit).

However, the wretched thing is not recognised by the RPi 4 at all. This is not just slow performance - it does not show up in lsusb or dmesg outputs at all.

I have implemented the quirks 'fix' in any event - no change. This doesn't matter whether I use the USB3 or the USB2 ports.

The device reports as "JMicron Tech USB 3.2 MACBOOK SSD" and has the usual JMicron Tech vendor code with device code 0156.

Any thoughts? I had been hoping to use it as a boot device for a RPi 4 but I can use it elsewhere if I have to so its not a complete disaster. The market for these devices is small - it cost me €40 vs about €10 for.a normal NvME carrier.
