Hi I am on the verge of buying pi
I have old printers ,some of which do not have networking ability so my plan was to use a pi as a print server
A network accessible card as a small file server built in would be useful too.
But that's all I would need it for.
An old desktop would do a better job but I can no longer justify the running cost for my use
I was thinking of a 3b -not too expensive but more useable than early models for future projects if the time comes
So a pi,power unit,a copy of raspbian, storage and cables and that's it -or is this a can of worms ?
Advice appreciated
1. "I have old printers ,some of which do not have networking ability "
What connectivity DO they have?
2. "I was thinking of a 3b -not too expensive but more useable than early models for future projects if the time comes"
For a marginal (if any) increase in cost an RPi3B+ might give better performance and future-proofing. But it is now 6 years old.
3. "So a pi,power unit,a copy of raspbian... "
'The Raspberry Pi Operating System' - RasPiOS, is not synonymous with 'Raspbian'. You should almost certainly be considering the former.
