Troubleshooting • Raspberry Pi 4 connection via SSH not working

Hello,
I've got a Raspberry Pi 4 with RPiOS Stretch and a laptop with Windows 11 23H2. Yesterday, I connected the RPi to the laptop via SSH over an Ethernet cable in my home network, and it worked after enabling network sharing in Windows and adding 5 lines of code to /etc/network/interface (which I can't tell you right now). The RPi was also able to connect to the internet, the desktop was visible and interactable in VNC, and everything worked even after restarting the RPi. I connected using the hostname raspberrypi.local in PuTTY and an IPv4 address in VNC.
Today, however, when I tried the same steps in my school network, I got many different error messages: "Connection refused", "Connection timeout", and "Host does not exist". I did not change any configurations, my firewall rules are the same for both networks, and even with WiFi disabled, it doesn't work.
Does anybody know how I could fix this issue? I haven't tried it again in the home network yet.
