Raspberry Pi OS Bookworm or some other Debian varient?8gb ram
Bookworm 32bit
Desktop
Via sudo raspi config
I can't even login to vnc client on pi. Used to be a white box on top right toolbar where you could click and login.
Not sure I'm following that last line. Log in to VNC on the Desktop the VNC server is serving? That probably isn't going to end well. If you mean log in to VNC using a client on a different machine, you'll need to tell us which client and which OS you're using.
RPiOS Bookworm on an 8GB 4B* will default to using Wayland/wayfire instead of X11. There were problems with some VNC clients and Wayland. At release of bookworm the preferred client was tigervnc.
So..., try a different VNC client or use raspi-config to switch from Wayland to X11 (look under "Advanced options", hou may need to re-enabled vnc after making that change and rebooting) and see if that helps.
If you meant login to a VNC server on a different machine using a client on the PI, that's a different issue and one that I'd not expect to need VNC enabled via raspi-config (that enables the server which is not needed to run a client). It's also not something I can assist with as it's not something I do.
*: in fact on any BCM2711 or BCM2712 based Pi with 2GB RAM or more.
