If you replace like for like (not just with a 3B+ but one with the same board revision) it should just work.

If you have a 3B+ of a later revision you may need to update the bootloader related files on your SD card:
  • Flash the latest RPiOS onto a spare SD card. Lite or full doesn't matter, neither does 64 or 32 bit.
  • Grab a couple of USB card readers and a PC.
  • WIth one card in each reader open both boot partitions.
  • If using Windows and are prompted to format a partition do not do so as it will erase all data in the root (Linux) partition.
  • Backup the boot partition of the old SD card.
  • Copy the following files from the new card to the old one:
    fixup4cd.dat
    fixup4.dat
    fixup4db.dat
    fixup4x.dat
    fixup_cd.dat
    fixup.dat
    fixup_db.dat
    fixup_x.dat
    start4cd.elf
    start4db.elf
    start4.elf
    start4x.elf
    start_cd.elf
    start_db.elf
    start.elf
    start_x.elf
If you replace it with 4B, 400, or Pi5 all bets are off and you'd probably be better starting with a fresh installation onto a fresh SD card.
