Asking for help with logins via ssh is most definitely off topic in a thread entitled "Headless Trixie with static IP set before first boot - here is how". oldunixguy's problem is not an issue with IP address configuration whether static or otherwise. It is not an issue with doing said configuration prior to the first boot.
And are you saying providing feedback and criticism on your instructions is off topic?
Remember, starting a thread does not give you control over it. If you think a post is off topic or otherwise problematic report it to the moderators.
Lastly, please stop with the bold and coloured text. It's hard to take you seriously when you're coming across as aggressive, whiny, and entitled.
Oldunixguy didn't ask for help with login in general. When he said:So I applaud Chupo_cro for this posting for trixie!
Unfortunately, I cannot using this method make the login with ssh successfully!
he asked why the specific method that I described didn't work as expected.
I answered the method didn't work because he skipped the very first step and he introduced a step which I didn't mention.
Do you really think he would, after opening a new thread, get an answer saying something like: "You skipped the very first step described in the thread under subject 'Headless Trixie with static IP set before first boot - here is how' and you introduced an additional step which was not mentioned."?
You advised oldlinuxguy to search for another thread where he could find the answer to his question regarding "Why the method described by me didn't work". Really?
As you could see, I don't have any problem with the off-topic discussions. You may criticise my instructions as much as you want and I described what my initial post is about and what it is not about.
Here is how I see your criticism:
Imagine someone posted the information about where exactly is located the first gear on some specific car by saying: "You can put that car in the first gear by moving the gear lever to the left and then to the front.".
To me, your comments on my instructions look like someone would reply to that person by writing:
- But what if someone has the same car with automatic transmission?
- You didn't say anything about pressing the clutch.
- You didn't mention that if the engine is on and if, in front of the car, there is a wall - by following your instructions someone will crash their car into the wall.
- Yes but on my Massey Ferguson tractor the first gear is to the left and then to the back.
- What if the gear lever isn't in neutral position - how could someone move it to the left in that case?
I have already said what I consider on-topic and what I consider off-topic regarding the topic that was started by me.
On the other hand, I couldn't care less if someone replies with the messages which are off-topic. I don't see that as the slightest problem.
Do you really think someone would, upon using my instructions, say:
"Hey, I wanted to configure the static IP as 192.168.0.201/16 and by following your instructions I enetered 192.168.0.201/24?
And even if that happens - a big deal. I'd reply: "Try with /16 instead of /24".
I don't need any control over the thread.
I will format the messages using the tools provided as I feel necessary.
There are browser plugins which you may use to remove all the formatting which makes you following the thread difficult.
That's a huge change in attitude from your earlier posts.
It's absolutely uncalled for too.
As for
"Hey, I wanted to configure the static IP as 192.168.0.201/16 and by following your instructions I enetered 192.168.0.201/24?
Again, you've missed my point. How would you respond to "I configured the static address following your guide but it didn't work?"? That's the level of question you'll get. And remember there are other private subnets. Nor every uses 192.168.0.0/16 (or /24).
