You should be running the Trixie (or later) release, or the Bookworm legacy image (though this will not have the latest features and bug fixes). You should not be running Bullseye or anything earlier as this will be using either a very out-of-date version of the camera stack, or the obsolete Broadcom camera stack. The current camera stack, based on libcamera, has been recommended for several years now. Please make sure your software is up to date using "sudo apt update" and "sudo apt full-upgrade".
What if I'm using the obsolete (Broadcom) camera stack?
If you're using Bullseye or an earlier release, then you need to upgrade to a more recent OS image, ideally the latest one. The obsolete Broadcom stack is now completely unsupported.

I don't know what libcamera support ROS has, but you may be able to use libcamerify as the libcamera V4L2 compatibility layer.Be aware that the old Broadcom camera stack only supports the v1 and v2 cameras and the HQ camera. The Camera Module 3, Global Shutter camera and any later or third party cameras are not and will never be supported. If you need to use any of them, then you must migrate to the modern camera stack.
