So I was looking at this again today as I finally had some time. I should mention that I'm completely new to this so I'm learning as I go. Trying to figure out where I would add the pull down resistor. I've attached an image of the diagram I've breadboarded. I used a resistor in a few different places but no luck. Alternatively, I would try connecting the pin to ground instead of 3.3V, but I confess I don't quite understand how to do that.
Also, thanks for the info on the 2 copper dots, it's a relief to know I didn't destroy the board.
