1) you might try updating the bootloader.
2) not all HDMI cables work properly.... i dont know why, but i have seen some that dont work.
i've now begun always using the official cable. that reliable.
if you don't get the diagnostic display with no card insterted, either the HDMI cable isnt working right, or it's dead (i think).
