Hi again thagrol and thanks for posting another reply,

Since when has Tor been illegal in the UK?

So are you saying Tor is not illeagal :o?? If so then I stand corrected. I confess to knowing next to nothig about Tor and was going soley on the media reports of antisocial and illegal activity associated with Tor but from the context of your posting it would seem Tor itself is possibly legal but is subject to ilegal use by a minority. Would that be a correct interpritation?

As for security and Tor. That's not what Tor is about. Tor is about anonymity and hiding your point of origin.

All understood but it was the "point of origin" that I understood to be Tor's main weakness? Again, I confess to know very little about Tor or Tor "services" but from what I read in the past Tor relied upon many layers of encryption between links/nodes (onion routing?) which was its strong point. But my understanding was that the weak point was the entry/exit nodes which (if I understood correctly) could be run by anyone wishing to voluteer their services.

So, if the entry/exit node was set-up by some dishonest person what is to say that (given enough resources) that person might not be filtering/inspecting/manipulating the data passing through the node?

And please dont misunderstand, I am not disputing what you say but rather trying to correct and/or clarify any gaps in my current of knowledge (or lack of) about networking :P
