Troubleshooting • Imager does boot but does not have the password

I have a brand new RPi3B+ and create an image with imager 1.9.6 for the 64 bit version of Trixie.
I use the OS customisation settings and want to set user and password which I enter. I generate the headless image on the SD card and boot it.
I can login (headless) via the wifi and get the prompt. I enter the user and password to which I get Access Denied.

Am I missing something or is there a (known?) bug in the imager / OS configuration (headless config)?

Any suggestion?
