Hi All,
First post on this forum, hello all.
I just got my shiny new Pi 500+ with clicky keyboard, exciting.
I already own a Pi 5 16Gb and Pi 400 and my monitor set up is all good with that.
I found the Pi500+ video was blanking out randomly or not working at all. The initialisation screen had larger than normal fonts, appeared for a couple of seconds, and then would go blank. I thought I had messed up the image on the SSD somehow, so I tried removing it and booting from SD card, but had the same issues. Tried a different monitor, slightly different results, could get a picture eventually, but moving the Pi 500+ in any way made it blank out.
Solution: I noticed that the Micro HDMI ports are much more recessed due to the thick plastic of the case. I compared this with Pi 400, it has much thinner plastic. So I tried trimming back the body of my Micro HDMI lead with a Stanley knife, so that the metal connector on the lead sticks out further, and can push all the way in through the thick Pi 500+ case. Problem solved. This is likely to be a common problem as the case with be thick for for everyone. Hope this helps some of you! - just be careful with Stanley the Knife!
