Gaming • My GBZ project needs advice

Hello Raspberry Pi Gurus!

I am building my first GBZ project with the following parts:

- Raspberry Pi zero 2 W
https://www.adafruit.com/product/5291

- Powerboost 1000C
https://www.adafruit.com/product/2465?s ... lRQ1EVsDPH

- Power strip by Helder
https://oshpark.com/shared_projects/tQqjx16m

- button PCB from kitsch-bent
https://store.kitsch-bent.com/products/ ... eq=uniform

- BW 3.5" display
https://www.amazon.com/BW-3-5-Inch-Moni ... iewsAnchor

- "Adafruit TPS65131 Split Power Supply Boost Converter" for the display only (since the recommended voltage is 12V for the display)
https://www.adafruit.com/product/6280

- USB hub
https://www.adafruit.com/product/5997

The goal is to build a fairly simple GBZ.
Everything is powered by the Powerboost 1000C (with connecting the 5V and GND pins to the Power Strip), including the "booster" for the display, the Raspberry Pi, the Button PCB, and USB hub.
The display is soldered to the TV pin of the Pi (for data input) and works okay.
The display has the power from the "Adafruit TPS65131 Split Power Supply Boost Converter", which is connected to the Power Strip for input. (Did not want to mess with wiring directly to the display chipset to make it work from 5V.)

There are two issues:
1. The button PCB does not register any button press (even though RetroPie is able to see it as 1 "controller")
Current wiring/map:
UP - BCM 4
DOWN - BCM 17
LEFT - BCM 27
RIGHT - BCM 22
A - BCM 5
B - BCM 6
X - BCM 19
Y - BCM 26
Start - BCM 16
Select - BCM 20
(Keyboard inputs are working through the USB hub.)

2. The Raspberry Pi zero 2 w (endlessly) restarts when a mini HDMI port is connected to a monitor.

For issue #1:
Is there a "standard" wiring/mapping for GPIO pins and simple (mechanical) buttons?
Or is it always managed (hardcoded?) from SW (Retropie) configuration?

For issue #2:
I am suspecting a power issue...
Does it make sense to separate the Raspberry Pi to the USB output "header" (for the Powerboost 1000C) as an only consumer?
Is there any advice?

Thank you for the suggestions in advance.

Greg
