Assistive technology and accessibility • Help design bluetooth device

I have a wheelchair with a joystick that can be used as a Bluetooth mouse (classic Bluetooth only). I can connect it to my Android phone, for example. Pushing the joystick forward moves the mouse pointer up, but that’s difficult for me because I’m not very strong.

I’d like to modify the behavior so that pushing the joystick once starts the movement, and pushing it again stops it. I can’t or won’t make hardware changes to the chair itself, which is why I’m working through Bluetooth.

Ideally, I’d like to make a device that acts as both a HID host and a Bluetooth mouse, so it can sit between the joystick and the phone. I’ve previously made a HID host device with a Pico W, but it doesn’t seem possible to combine both roles on a Pico.

I could connect to the phone as a USB mouse, but then I wouldn’t be able to use it while charging.

Could I maybe combine two Picos, or use another platform? I’m not very experienced with the electronics side of things, so I’d appreciate suggestions.
