The name "rings a bell" - IIRC** I didn't work directly with, but knew of a "Pete Dyer", and the departments, working groups etc. of what was, in its "hayday", known as the Sowerby**** Research Centre were somewhat "fluid" in that some projects involved members of more than one "group or department and so "paths crossed". Historically I was originally a LASER physicist (CO2 TEA TEA lasers and their associated high-voltage pulsed PSU's and trigger-circuits), but also associated with the opto-electronics, "instrumentation & control" of other laser sources in the near IR and visible bands (during my lab-based period). In latter years I was more involved in computational modelling of what an IR sensor might "see" of an object through an "absorbing/scattering" atmospheric path.

** I've always had a better memory for faces, than "full names" and there were several Pete(r)s - a "cross-check" would be if the name "Chris. Stace" rings any bells (who I crossed paths with again recently)
**** In those early days I had the "doubtful pleasure" of said Technical Director observing me, cigar in hand, whilst I was analysing and logging video imagery from the prototype of part of his "pet project" (and, being quizzed about the task).
