It turns out that there is a fixed version in the sid repository. So I enabled sid, did a yum update, then did a yum install xtrx-dkms. This installed a new version of dkms as a dependency, then it installed a fixed version of xtrx-dkms and successfully built it. Then I disabled sid and did another yum update. Everything looks to be okay; the driver loads although I am waiting on the techs to bring the hardware to test it. The updated version of dkms does not seem to be doing any harm. So if you actually need to run xtrx-dkms this seems to be a much easier solution than building it yourself.
