Longevity is a reason to avoid "refurbished" computers because you have no idea if the previous owner cared about such things.
well, you can put your own SSD there. I like passive thin clients because if they work at arrival it is highly unlikely they will stop working anytime soon, there is not much to break there when you use your own SSD, just like with Pi.
Does anyone have any idea how an Intel Celeron J4105 compares in performance with a 3GHz 16GB Pi5?
As for CPU power it is faster than Pi4 but slower than Pi5. Pi5 is more comparable to N6005 or N100.

Wyse 5070 J4105 - https://browser.geekbench.com/v6/cpu/12876484
OptiPlex 3000 TC N6005 - https://browser.geekbench.com/v6/cpu/12423221
Pi4 https://browser.geekbench.com/v6/cpu/12847694
Pi5 - there is a lot of difference https://browser.geekbench.com/search?q=raspberry+pi+5 some go even over 2000

But it depends on what you need, having 4x pcie gen 3 SSD or 10Gbit Usb 3.2. gen 2 ports or 32GB RAM or HW video decoding/encoding for all major codecs may make a difference even if CPU is a bit slower in benchmarks.
