One thing I have noticed is that there is no pull up on the RXD line - it actually has a pull down

in a way, i can see that actually being good
it sends the break signal, indicating that there is a break in the cable

but i think the PL011 uart will constantly be sending an irq when in that state?
and something in userland could detect that, and just not launch a getty
and if the uart isnt open by userland, the kernel could turn irq's off, so the break condition isnt interrupting things
