Interfacing (DSI, CSI, I2C, etc.) • RP5 simple manual for seismic monitoring

I have a dream of using an rp5 for connecting a lot of adxl345 accelerometers (and maybe an adxl355) to make an array of accelerometers attached to a base. This is useful for filtering out internal device noise, and to detect rotations. It should be much cheaper than commercial seismic accelerometers. I have gotten excellent advice from the rp engineer, but it seems beyond me. The rp5 needs some extra work to be useful here.

What I got so far.
-adxl's need to be added as a sensor for dtoverlay
- that is done by a git pull of a driver - I can't get that working. I need the blunt recipe.
-once done, I need a list of working sensors.. I saw that somewhere.
-what i2c buses are reserved? I think at least bus-0 and bus-2. bus-1 is the standard bus that I got working.
-then we need a bunch of dtoverlay commands that specify the pins I can use. I saw that the command takes care of pull-up resistors.
-I can then read them in succession, fast enough for structural monitoring. I will do the array math separately. I enjoy that the rp5 is fast enough.
-as mentioned, the adxl355 has a 3 byte data register that I can't read.

Many thanks in advance, and I will post the whole 'Sensors for dummies' on my blog.
