That is key; using a terminal emulator rather than Thonny.We can see that output using (say) PuTTY on the PC
Thonny interacts with the Pico whenever it is launched which terminates any 'main.py' which may be running, requires a Ctrl-D to get that running again.
That can however be avoided -
- Switch to regular mode if using simple GUI mode
- Go into the 'Tools' -> 'Options...' menu
- Select the 'Interpreter' tab and there is a list of options at the bottom
- Click to remove the cross for 'Interrupt working program on connect', click the 'OK' button
