As for the Wumpus, what a coincidence. I have just started working on Land of Lisp book (Common Lisp), and have finished the Wumpus game just last night. Otherwise I wouldn't have even known what is Wumpus. :D
I missed Grand Theft Wumpus during my earlier wumpology studies. Maybe that book is just what I need to start understanding your code!
I doubt that. I'm not saying that the book is not good - the code presented is definitely well written. I'ts just the way I learn. I can't learn properly from any book that goes on and on with the new code, and brief explanations, without stopping at least every chapter for exercises. If I'm not forced to start writing code right from the beginning, after a while I lose interest, and get lost. The simpler way of saying this is, I need a proper textbook.
For Scheme, that would be HTDP2 - using Racket.
Or even faster: The Little Schemer, that in some 190 pages takes you all the way up to Y combinator.
