Sorry, I don't know the Xorg config runes, though I believe it may involve adding "Display" and "ServerLayout" sections.
I think it's possible, because it can be done temporarily using the Screen Configuration tool (I tried it with DPI + HDMI):
Select "Screens -> HDMI-1-1 -> Active" then click "Apply" and "OK". The maximum desktop width is restricted to 3840, so you might not be able to position the screens side-by-side. But you can place one below the other.
Performance seems to be terrible though; possibly something is repeatedly copying the desktop between different framebuffers... Does your application not work with Xwayland?
