My apologies - the 3.3V rail was being used.

Many thanks for the reminder of the delay I was aware of needing a delay - the datasheet I was using indicated 100ms - and my code I am using does some additional work that provided ample delays - but I added in a 750ms delay before the initialisation, and a further 250ms delay between the initialisation and the scan.

These made no difference, and so I have ordered some more parts, so I may replicate a minimal solution to debug this, as I can then send a photo of the minimal solution (which is on a breadboard).

I am hoping to have these parts in a couple of days.

I will update you either way, as I do appreciate your help, and understanding how I have been silly may help others!
