Great! Getting it working is the most important thing. Fiddling with how it looks should be done later, otherwise it interferes with getting it working.
Fonts are tricky, and always have been. I haven't tried this myself, but this could be a solution for you:

Basically, choose the font you like, render it to the size you want, then include it in your project somehow. You seem to enjoy researching stuff and making it work, so I think you'll be fine. Good luck!
