Fido died last Monday. Real name was Bella. She saved my life once. Rest in peace.Woohoo! After reseating the disk controller and associated cables everything is working. Tails are wagging even though disk corruption while the hardware was broken later caused e2fsck to delete a few files. The AT power supply has been replaced. Unfortunately, the BIOS configuration reset in the meantime and I don't know the magic parameters to get the disk drives back online. It appears I have to correctly set the cylinders, sectors and so forth for the kernel to find the super block. Maybe it's time to set up the Pi 5 that's still in the box.Fido got a Pi 5 for Christmas. Unfortunately, the official power supply was out of stock.
Speaking of power supplies, the AT supply in the 486 suffered a breakdown during the move last summer and someone forgot the password of the reserve 486 system from storage.
It still gives off heat without the password, but the dog developer has been whining all night.
A rescue floppy turned out impossible, so my plan to stop the whining is pull the HDD and reset the password in another machine.
It's sure easier to swap SD cards between pies.
It seems the resize command is now missing. I wonder where I put those backups.
