I started with the waveshare cpp examples in their wiki. I believe it doesn't use a frame buffer and writes directly to the screen. I do remember there being some bad practices I changed regarding touch. Like something about how If an invalid touch was detected it returned the last valid touch. Easy enough change. Start with the waveshare wiki and see if chatgpt can help you with any specific questions you have. It helped me quite a bit modifying a few things.
