That is a bit different that "start, boot, then immediately shutdown".
You now clarified to "boots, to desktop, then shuts down". What do you mean by "shuts down"? Is that crashed, kicked back to a login prompt, or turned off?
When you say "then it won't start" do you mean it does not respond to keyboard, or does not respond to holding down the power button?
