No, I am not using NetworkManager and I have added no new software, just using apt to update/upgrade the existing software.
As far as using/not using DHCP Reservations, my cable modem/router is a Hitron model and it requires that the DHCP Reservations be in the DHCP range.
So, you had some great things to check out, but alas, no joy.
I've decided to move to a static address outside of the DHCP range and be done with it, it still bugs me that it temporarily changed the MAC. It is back to the original MAC, but I don't trust it now.
