This is a Crucial P3 4TB.
Not the SSD. kerry_s is talking about PCIe addons that don't conform to the Pi PCIe specification.
The PCIe to NVME adapter board in the Argon case is very simple, it only has a 5V->3.3V buck converter power supply, there is no EEPROM or anything relating to HAT+ standard.
An EEPROM isn't needed. The PCIe addon detection mechanism is a pull-up resistor on one of the lines.
