Troubleshooting • Pi 5 low voltage warning behavior

Hello community!

I'm curious about the Pi5's low voltage warning behaviour and what specifically triggers it.

I'm powering my pi via the GPIO, with a PSU capable of delivering 8A at 5V. I have not seen current consumption above 3A, however readings are approximately every second so it is perfectly reasonable to assume that I have missed one.

I read that the low voltage warning is triggered when main power drops below 4.65V? This seems unlikely to be the case on this setup, as the PSU is capable of delivering the required current and then some, the cables are 22AWG and approximately 12cm in length.

Part of me thinks that the system just defaults to low voltage warnings if ever the pi is powered via GPIO rather than USBC... My PSU is capable of delivering the 8A via USBC power delivery, however I require the USBC port on the pi to work as a USB / Ethernet adaptor.

Any information will be helpful, thankyou!
