Well, I feel like it would be better to understand what has clearly changed in the RPi hardware/software set up, rather than look for a different type of solution - as I said an RPi4 and lately RPi5 HotSpot was a rock solid communication path over distances typically 8 to 10m for years.Why not get a mesh network to cover your garden?
But your mesh idea has made me try a successful workaround by placing a WiFi extender (Netgear 6150mkII in AP mode) close to the nearest window. I’m using an Ethernet cable to connect the unit to the router, and my tolerant wife is kindly allowing the cable to cross the lounge carpet. Since the arrangement is only needed on clear sky nights, it could be accommodated on a temporary basis. I am looking at alternatives such as flat Ethernet cables that could be more easily hidden/disguised for a more permanent installation.
Are any other members of the forum finding that HotSpot coverage with the RPi5 has become patchy since September?
