Ran this image from the official imager - Pi 5 --> Misc Utilities --> Boot from SD card before NVMe then USB, which updated the EEPROM and may have been what you were asking. (solid green screen once completed indicating success). Swapped to Raspberry PI OS image and it booted up just fine.
