I've never seen nor heard anyone make the assertion in your thread title. Maybe you need to hang out with brighter people?
Those other boards are SBCs, but they aren't Pis. They are sold by companies trying to trade on the success of the Raspberry Pi brand. The second thing is that there are other types of pi's that you can buy that look and that uses Debian to run their Linux system and they cost less than a PC yet are better than a raspberry pi. If you don't like the raspberry pi you could buy the rock pi for around $150.
The vast majority of PC owners do not do software development on them...simply because the vast majority of people don't develop software. The presence or absence of GPIO pins has nothing to do with software development *unless* you are developing software that also involves physical computing. Personally, I have a software application (which has multiple programs to it) that was originally written on a high-end PC-class machine. For over 10 years now, I've been maintaining and upgrading it on SBCs. Since the release of the Pi4B, that's been done on Pis. Recently, I migrated it onto Pi5s. It doesn't need nor use GPIO pins. The third myth is "you can do the same things on a PC as you could on a raspberry pi"
now obviously bull crap the raspberry pi has gpio pins that can be used for fans and circuitry that you possibly want to make that can be integrated into the system or not . On the other hand a PC does not have this. the average PC is mostly used for software development and does not have gpio pins.
I would argue that your conclusion is erroneous. A PC isn't better or worse than a Pi. What is important is to fit the tool to the task. As new models of Pis are released, there are more and more tasks that a Pi is capable of performing but there are still things for which a WinTel PC is the obvious choice of platform. It all depends on what your computing needs and desires are.in conclusion a PC is worse than the raspberry pi, not to say that you can add a camera to this little device as well, in hardware development. A lot of YouTubers that do coding stuff with hardware use a raspberry pi or something close to it. my suggestion for choosing a device, is whatever floats your boat. A raspberry pi is recommended for cost and hardware development.
