I have been into electronics for over 60 years, and if there's one thing I've noticed that any electronic component that runs hot (unless it's meant to) fails sooner. In my pc building years which started with XT clones up to multi core P4s I always fitted case, processor and hdd fans. Provided you got the speeds right, noise wasn't too intrusive. I don't think I ever had a failure in any PC that I built. I would err on the side of caution and add one. Whats cheaper, a fan or an hdd/ssd with data?
