On a recently-updated Raspberry Pi OS with Desktop system, if I right-click on a docx file, I get:For me, either double clicking, or clicking Open, or selecting 'Libre Office Writer' open the document. I didn't have to do anything special to associate the file type to make this happen.
Maybe if your system was set up as a Lite system then upgraded to Desktop, it might not have the file association
