It was quite a shock to login to the Forum today and find no trace of my question! I finally did a search for my "username" and found my post (and multiple responses) had been moved to the Python section of Programming, which I'm sure makes sense to the mods here. However, kindly keep in mind that someone posting in the Beginner section is probably a beginner and not only doesn't know better, but will not know what to do when they revisit and find no trace, as I did.
Someway of notifying the person would be helpful.
Other than that, thanks to all who responded. I had hesitated to ask this question because it seemed to simple and I suspected I was just "not seeing" the answer, but finally gave in and posted.
Yes to jojopi: had I known the term I was looking for is getch would have been a big help, so thanks for that tip.
Thanks to all the other responders for your coding suggestions. I will try them all and see what works best.
