Networking and servers • What makes SSHD so responsive on Raspbian? (Slow typing on Debian)

Hi there,

I am genuinely intrigued here.
I have several Raspberry Pi models around, running Raspbian aarch64, where typing on them on an SSH session is very, very responsive. Feels like typing on a local TTY in fact!

However, on my Debian systems in x86_64, typing is laggy sometimes, and definitely it doesn't feel as responsive as on Raspbian.

I have been comparing the SSHD configuration files on Raspbian vs Debian, and in both cases I see I have the same /etc/ssh/sshd_config values, notably UseDNS no which is supposed to fix lag when there's a DNS problem.

All machines are on the same network, and the Debian machines have different network controllers, etc.

What else could be making it so good on Raspbian and so bad on Debian? Any ideas, please?
