General discussion • Re: New Raspberry Pi Products

Memory seems to be the cheapest upgrade and is really useful for giant disk caches in a file server with a 4 TB disk. The Pi 5 M.2 hat is restricted to 2242 which means only 1 TB SSDs so 8 GB memory is ok, based on my tests of file servers with different size disks.

If the next Raspberry Pi add-on is similar to the X1002 for 2280 SSDs or the other model allowing two * 2280 SSDs, that would benefit file servers but would need 16 GB for a big cache for efficient searches.

PCIe 3 speed is really useful to me. If that became the official default, great! Image may be NSFW.
Clik here to view.
:D
I tested a variety of hardware and have not found one requiring a fallback to PCIe 2.

A PI 500 board would be my top selection for a new product. Like a Pi 400 without the keyboard. I could then insert it under my favorite 85% keyboard to produce a Pi 400 with a better keystroke and significant speed improvements. There would be room for NVMe storage.

Send me some Pi 500 prototypes, board and heatsink, and I will build professional keyboard examples.
