I bought the Pi 5 about a week ago and am currently running the OS on a cheap SD card. I don't even feel like I'm using an SD card. The OS boots up almost instantly and everything loads up quickly. I don't think I will even get a SSD or NVME drive for this which I was originally planning to do.
The only down side is I just noticed that there is no audio jack and all my headphones and speakers need an audio jack.
