It might be worthwhile instead trying labwc which is currently in beta (and we're intending on moving to it in the next couple of months). You can do this by:

sudo apt updatesudo apt upgradesudo apt install labwcsudo raspi-config

Then "Advanced Options" -> "Wayland" -> "Labwc"

Then reboot...

Labwc does not have the animation effects
